Ed Van Winkle III

Company President

Read Ed's Bio

Ed learned the Construction business from the ground up prior to formally becoming Company President in 1998. This Georgia Tech alumni cut his construction teeth jackhammering concrete on the initial demolition for Grady Hospital’s new 1979 entrance before learning the business as a Project Engineer and Project Manager. He holds an active role in formulating price proposals.

Ed is a service-oriented leader who takes great pride in the company and our community. He is an active member at Atlanta’s Church of the Apostles and a contributor to local and international causes including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Help the Persecuted, and the Matthew E Russell Foundation. When not talking business or participating in philanthropic pursuits, you can find him hunting quail.

Kenneth Barnett - Chief Operations Officer

Kenneth Barnett joined Van Winkle in 2002 with 22 years previous experience in the industry. As Chief Operations Officer, Kenneth oversees the daily operation of the company and project staffing.

Kenneth serves on the Construction Industry Advisory board for his Alma Mater, Kennesaw State University (previously Southern Polytechnic State University). He is an active member of the AGC of Georgia and the AIC.

Shane Hornbuckle - Principal

Shane Hornbuckle grew up on the job sites of his father’s construction company before joining Van Winkle in 1992. His personable demeanor and adaptable skills prove him a valued member of any project team. Shane oversees the company’s sales, Marketing, and promotional initiatives.

Shane is a proud alumnus of Oglethorpe University and very involved with his local community. When he is not acting as a liaison for his church and charity organizations, he enjoys hunting, golf, and playing with his dog Rosco.

Willie has worked just about everywhere in the eastern United States and done just about everything there is to do in the industry. He joined Van Winkle in 2015 with 35 years’ prior experience and uses his varied construction expertise daily. His project resume includes projects for high-profile clients including the High Museum of Art, Bank of America, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

In addition to his construction chops, Willie is a dedicated pastor and philanthropist. He and his wife, Flossie Russell, co-founded the Matthew E Russell Foundation to benefit impoverished South African schools and provide outreach initiatives for their surrounding community.

Charles Gwynn - Chief Financial Officer

Charlie, a Florida State University graduate and Certified Public Accountant, supervises our accounting department’s day-to-day operations as well as coordinates information with our general liability auditors and worker’s compensation contacts. His experience in construction began in 1985 as an accountant and tax analyst for general contractors, and he never looked back.

Rick Wilson - Director of Preconstruction

Rick is the son of and Superintendent and grew up in the construction industry. Over the course of his nearly 40 years of experience Rick has been involved in a diverse collection of projects from both an operations standpoint as well as preconstruction. He joined Van Winkle in 2018 and since that time has completed multiple successful budgets and construction estimates for a wide range of markets including Assisted Living, Multi-family, Private Schools, Hospitality, Industrial, and Faith Based.

A graduate of Auburn University and former Scoutmaster, Rick attends Johnsons Ferry Baptist Church and loves spending time with his family and friends.

Edward graduated from Presbyterian College before starting his construction career in construction in 2011. He was born in Atlanta but has experience in markets throughout the Southeast including Hospitality, Commercial, Industrial, and Faith-based.

Gary Nicholson - General Superintendent

This Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University) graduate joined Van Winkle in 1977 as a field engineer before working his way up the company. He understands the boots-on-the-ground side of the industry like no other.

Gary oversees every Van Winkle jobsite in progress. As General Superintendent, he has overall responsibility for all onsite construction, but he provides valuable insight during Preconstruction, too. During construction, Gary handles all day-to-day job site communications with Subcontractors, suppliers, and field forces. Through his leadership, Gary sets professional standards for quality and determines the project pace.

Lori Deagan - Accounting Manager

Read Lori's Bio

Lori is a graduate of Millikin University. Her accounting career began in the oil and gas industry in the 1980s. She joined Van Winkle in 2011.

Lori oversees our cash flow and keeps Van Winkle’s day-to-day financial health on track. She is responsible for accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.

Lori Deagan - Accounting Manager

Contract Administrator and Office Manager

Amy coordinates and oversees all office administrative duties. She also develops and evaluates Van Winkle company contracts for legality and completeness.
