“As I look back on our decision to award the project to [Van Winkle], it was the best decision we could have made.

The members of your project team… conducted themselves in an outstanding manner… they did above and beyond the work they were contracted to do.”

DESCRIPTION

Zion Baptist Church, one of the oldest churches in Georgia, selected Van Winkle to construct a new worship facility addition to the original campus. Van Winkle took special care in creating a cohesive whole from the existing historic campus and the new addition. The new addition includes a sanctuary, fellowship hall, music rehearsal suite, and classrooms.

The project scope included paving improvements, including the addition of 96 paved spaces in the parking lot.

FEATURES

Sanctuary Features

The new worship center sanctuary contains 1,200 seats. The curved ceiling enhances acoustics for the sanctuary’s floor and balcony levels. A central skylight brings outside light into the space in representation of God’s light.

Fellowship Hall and Education Wing

The fellowship hall seats 450 and features a commercial grade kitchen. It connects to the education wing, which features nursery, preschool, and grade school classrooms.

Exterior Features

Visitors and congregation members enter the addition at the base of a 76-foot-tall tower with a brick facade. The addition’s main visual feature, a 14-foot-tall cross, extends from the top of the tower. Van Winkle coordinated 55 different Subcontractors and trade contractors to erect this cross.
