DESCRIPTION
Over the course of multiple phases, Van Winkle Construction renovated the interior and exterior of Wallace State University’s James C Bailey Student Center. The existing building comprised of a thirteen-story tower connected to a three-story low-rise building. While originally planned as two phases, this project required a third phase after a tornado hit the building during construction.
FEATURES
Phase I
First, Van Winkle renovated the low-rise portion of the James C Bailey Center. Work on this three-story area included structural systems, complete interior renovations, and a new elevator.
Phase II
The second phase included interior renovations to the thirteen foot tower. The tower houses an auditorium, honors classrooms, the Cyber Cafe, a wellness center, Dean’s office, President’s office, Provost’s office, and the Veteran’s Affairs office. The tower’s interior package included demolition, HVAC, electrical system, lighting, walls, flooring, fire protection, and other interior finishes.
Phase III
Finally, the third phase included replacement of the roof adjoining the tower and low-rise administrative building. Van Winkle replaced the exterior as well. The new exterior features masonry and glass curtain wall.
