DESCRIPTION

The multi-phase Northside United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall project began with site work on approximately four acres of land. The first phase included a new underground parking deck. The second phase included a new prayer chapel, new education wing, new fellowship hall, interior renovation of the music suite, and relocation of and improvements to the onsite scout hut.

The church and preschool remained fully operational throughout the entire project.

FEATURES

Phase I

Parking Deck

Northside United Methodist’s newunderground parking deck features 258 spaces distributed over two and a half levels. During the second phase of the project, Van Winkle constructed a connecting walkway from the main building to the parking deck.

Phase II

Scout Hut Improvements

Van Winkle expanded the hut to approximately twice its original size. Scope also included improvements to bring the hut to modern building code.

Prayer Chapel

Northside United Methodist’s new Prayer Chapel features a limestone exterior. Inside, the Prayer Chapel features a Jerusalem stone prayer altar with custom engraving highlighted by a glass steeple and skylight. The interior finishes also include quarter-sawn red oak mill work, custom cast bronze light fixtures, unique “crown of thorns” prayer railing, and an inlaid “river” of stones in the flooring.

Fellowship Building

The new three-story fellowship building features an open floor plan to accommodate the congregation’s needs. The building includes a flexible meeting space with seating for 850 during contemporary services and seating for over 460 when converted to a dining space. An adjoining commercial kitchen features separate rooms for dry storage, laundry, offices, walk-in freezer, cooler, equipment storage, and service elevator. The space also includes an extensive audio/visual package and fully functional stage for theatrical productions.

Finally, a wing housing ten K12 classrooms and a connecting walkway to the parking deck unified the Phase I and Phase II projects.
