DESCRIPTION
The new Compassion Church building is a hybrid of concrete and steel construction tied into a fully renovated campus. The new building includes a sanctuary, pastor’s office, green room, A/V suite, and prayer/connecting rooms. Renovated buildings include welcome space, cafe, and circulation spaces.
FEATURES
New Building
The new sanctuary features poured-in-place radial seating for over 2,000. The connecting state-of-the-art A/V suite includes recording and editing spaces as well as acoustic padding.
Exterior Features
Scope included exterior renovations to unify the appearance of the new building and the existing campus. The church’s new EIFS exterior includes large sections of curtain wall for modern appeal.
CHALLENGES
Compassion Church’s layout changed drastically at the beginning of the project in response to Van Winkle’s proactive environmental and existing site research. The original design specified the entrance face a nearby lake, but this layout lacked approval from the EPA. Van Winkle proposed a new layout to the Owner’s satisfaction and utilized significant Value Engineering efforts to improve the project budget.
