Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia has selected Van Winkle Construction to construct the expansion of their church campus. The $13 million project involves extensive demolition and the construction of more than 100,000 square feet. The project will create or renovate classroom spaces, fellowship space, offices, study areas, a café and storage space.

Van Winkle Construction Vice President Shane Hornbuckle said, “We have known of Sherwood Baptist Church for a long time and all of us at the company are huge fans of the movies they produce. We are really excited to be working with them to update their building.”

Construction is expected to begin April of 2013 and last until early 2014. The architect of record is Clark Patterson Lee Design Associates of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Project Scope: The new 70,000 sf facility will serve as the Sugarloaf campus of 12Stone Church while also functioning as the headquarter location for John C. Maxwell’s training organization EQUIP®. The facility will offer much needed space for 12Stone Church to develop the next generation of ministry leaders while enabling the aggressively growing organization to train future and present pastors and ministry leaders through partnerships with Wesley Seminary and Indiana Wesleyan University. It will also provide a location to produce his digital leadership library for businesses and ministries.

Sugar Hill City Hall and Parking Deck

Project Scope: Van Winkle was hired to build the new City Hall for Sugar Hill. This traditional Greek Revival building is a brick veneer with cast stone trim and metal roof. The 31,400 sf building contains office spaces, administrative spaces, Council Chambers, customer service area, post office and an elevator. There is substantial wood trim and a third of the flooring is hard tile. The project encompassed all sitework and utilities. Also included is a 31,700 sf, two level parking deck with parking for approximately 200.

Project Scope: Includes the renovation and expansion of B82, B83 and B84 hangars. This consists of approximately 45,000 sf in the three buildings plus several support buildings. We will remove and replace 22,000 sf of concrete paving. The buildings are structural steel and will have new siding, new roofing, new wet and foam fire protection, new HVAC, new plumbing, new fabric door in the front and roll-up doors in the back. There are also several administrative offices in each building.

Van Winkle Construction worked with Whitefield Academy to build their new Upper School. The building is a three-story, 52,000 sf stone, wood-siding curtainwall exterior over a structural steel frame. The design includes new physics and chemistry labs, art room, classrooms, stepped lecture hall, student commons, media center, administrative offices, and black box theater, as well as study/conference rooms and storage areas. The sitework included sidewalks, quad and site landscaping and a grass paved fire lane.

John C Maxwell Leadership Center

VAN WINKLE STARTS NEW CHURCH & LEADERSHIP CENTER

September 12, 2012

Van Winkle Construction broke ground on the new John C. Maxwell Leadership Center/12Stone Satellite Campus complex in Duluth, Georgia on September 10, 2012. The 71,000 square foot facility will house Office and Administrative space, a 1,100-seat Sanctuary, a 200-seat Black Box Theater, Classrooms, a Coffee Café, Childcare space and Children’s and Student’s Ministry areas.

The John C. Maxwell Leadership Center and 12Stone Duluth Satellite Campus will sit on 17 acres located along Interstate Highway 85 near Sugarloaf Parkway. The architectural style will be similar to that of the nearby Arena at Gwinnett Center and the facility will feature an elliptical entry way surrounded by 12 stone columns.

It was important to 12Stone that the team members have strong connections to the Gwinnett County community. The design architect was edp collaborative design of Norcross, GA with the architect of record, Wakefield Beasley & Associates of Norcross, GA, who was responsible for the construction documents. The construction is scheduled to be complete by January 2014.

12Stone Church previously engaged Van Winkle to build the church’s headquarters complex in Lawrenceville, Georgia in 2007. Whitefield Academy of Mableton, GA. officially opened Morris Hall with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 13. Van Winkle Construction built the 55,000 sf facility, which serves as the new upper school for the academy. Morris Hall houses Classrooms; Science Labs; Offices; and a 443-seat Black Box Theater.

The building is constructed of structural steel frame, stone exterior with plank siding and a standing seam metal roof.

Van Winkle began work in May of 2011 and finished the project on schedule, allowing Whitefield Academy to occupy the building at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.

Van Winkle To Renovate Congregation Etz Chaim – Marietta, GA
April 24, 2012

Congregation Etz Chaim of Marietta, Georgia has selected Van Winkle Construction to renovate their Synagogue. The work involves interior renovations to the Lobby, Pre-function, Restrooms, Hallways, Gift Shop, Storage areas and entrances to Administrative Offices. New flooring and millwork will highlight the work.

The project will begin May of 2012 and be complete by August. The firm of Collins Cooper Carusi Architects Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia is the project architect.
